------------------------------------

We proudly present the first Humboldt Kolleg activity in Indonesia. This activity is the result of collaboration between Ma Chung University and Humboldt Club Indonesia supported by The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The activity designed specifically for Humboldtians in South East Asia can be followed by general participants as one of the aims to introduce the useful programs of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. It is organized by scientists from various fields of study who received a Humboldt Fellowship, a very prestigious grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for those who excel in their respective fields (http://www.humboldt-foundation.de).

The Humboldt Kolleg activities will be held in conjunction with The International Conference on Natural Sciences (ICONS) 2011 which will be open to public, but especially targeted at Humboldtians, graduate students, researchers, and lecturers. The theme selected for Humboldt Kolleg is intended to strengthen synergy, networking, and the role of scientists in Indonesia and South East Asia in developing basic sciences and their application for the advancement of South East Asia.

The themes selected for ICONS 2011 are (1) the role of natural sciences in conserving natural resources, (2) the role of natural sciences in overcoming global warming, (3) the role of natural sciences in developing science and technology, and (4) the role of natural sciences in improving human welfare. Representatives of The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will present Alexander von Humboldt programs and other programs from their partners such as DAAD and APD. The programs will be presented in such a way as to draw the interest of graduate students and researchers who have not known The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Through this program there are many benefits to be gained, including the opportunity for oral and poster presentations to the Humboldtians which will be published in an ISBN/ISSN book entitled Humboldtians in South East Asia: Research interests and future prospects. Meanwhile, through ICONS 2011, both public participants and Humboldtians can publish the result of oral and poster presentations through proceedings published by Shaker-Verlag (being explored).

We look forward to seeing you in July.
